Derek Stingley (born April 9, 1971) is the defensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Soul of Arena Football League. Prior to his coaching career, he also had an eight-year playing career as a defensive specialist for the Albany Firebirds. He also played college baseball at Triton College and was selected in the 1993 Major League Baseball Draft as a center fielder by the Philadelphia Phillies, where he spent three seasons (1993–1995). ==Early life== Stingley was just seven years old when his father, Darryl Stingley a wide receiver for the New England Patriots, was paralyzed in a preseason game, after being hit by Oakland Raiders' safety Jack Tatum on August 12, 1978.
